Auburn’s defense has been really good in stretches, but there’s one glaring weakness Alex Golesh knows has to get fixed: getting off the field on fourth down. Opponents have consistently found ways to extend drives, but is Auburn’s fourth-down problem entirely bad defense—or has some situational bad luck made the numbers look even worse? Golesh called it a “huge point of emphasis” after Vanderbilt converted all three of its fourth-and-1 opportunities plus a fourth-and-3.
We also look ahead to Auburn’s trip to Tennessee, where rain could become part of the equation Saturday afternoon in Knoxville, and discuss which team would benefit most if conditions get sloppy. Current forecasts show a meaningful chance of showers around kickoff, although wind is expected to be relatively light. Finally, Auburn basketball and Steven Pearl land a BIG piece of the 2027 class with four-star, top-100 point guard Jason Gardner Jr., giving the Tigers their first commitment of the cycle.
